The investigation of releationship between social goal orientation, coping and some variables

This study investigated the relationships between university and high school students social goal orientation level cope, parents educational position, physical and economic perception. Two measures were used for this study: Social Goal Orientation Scale(Allison Ryan 2001)and Cope Scale (Yasar Özbay 1993)Total 603 university and high school students (279 female, 334 male;323 high scool, 290 university students)from zzet Baysal University and different high school from Düzce took these scales.One way ANOVA and correlation were used to statistically evaluate the data. This study took basic social goal orientation.This model was based on findings in social goals research and extended from current models of academic achievement goal orientation is presented.The model consists of three goal orientation, mastery, performance-approach and performance- avoidance.A social mastery orientation focuses on having positive and supportive relationships, and on building the skills to maintain them.A performance-approach orientation is focused on demostrating to others one?s social prestige. A performance- avoidance orientation is focused on demostrating to others one is not socially inept.Relations of individual social goal orientations suggest social mastery to be most adaptive in relation physical and economic perception and social position. In particular , a social performanceavoidance orientations was detrimental to both social and academic functioning. In this study social mastery is positivly releated with social performance-approach, active planning , searching for external help , acceptiance cognitive restructuning otherwise It is highly negativly releated with social performance- avoidance, biochemical escape and emotional escape. social performance-approach is positivly releated with social performance- avoidance, searching for external help, acceptiance cognitive restructuning , emotional escape.Social performance- avoidance is highly positivly releated with biochemical escape , religous, at the same time It is negativly releated with active planning and searching for external help.Finally , the limitations of the present study and the implications for future researches are discussed.
