Abstract (TR)

Alcohol use is a serious problem that has a profound impact on human life and poses a threat to human health. In the literature, it is seen that a significant number of individuals who use and depend on alcohol have attempted suicide or completed suicide. Although the reasons for alcohol use include both escaping from stressful living conditions and self-esteem, trying to alleviate the unbearable pain and ignoring its existence, the risky use of alcohol and alcohol dependence is a behavior that results in death. Considering that death following risky and excessive alcohol consumption may be seen as a form of self-slaughter, it is important to examine alcohol use and suicidal tendency together. In this study, alcohol use of university students; suicidal tendency in this context; these two variables were examined in terms of age, gender, grade level variables and the predictive levels of these two variables. The sample of the study consists of 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th grade students studying in Guidance and Psychological Counseling Program at Eastern Mediterranean University Faculty of Education Department of Educational Sciences. There were 235 students, 120 female and 115 male students. The Addiction Profile Index Risk Screening-Alcohol Form (BAPİRT), The Suicide Probability Scale (PSQ) and the personal information form developed by the researcher were used. According to the findings of the study, a significant difference was found between age and alcohol use. It was found that the students using alcohol were mostly between the ages of 25-29. A significant difference was found between sex and alcohol use. It was determined that male students consumed more alcohol than female students. A significant difference was found between gender and anger subscale of suicide probability scale. Male students are more angry than female students. As a result of the study, the results of the standard multiple regression analysis showed that anger, one of the sub-dimensions of the suicide probability scale, was a significant predictor of alcohol use. Negative self and exhaustion, subdimensions of Suicide Probability Scale, detachment from life commitment and anger; explains about 10% of alcohol use. Keywords: Alcohol use, Alcohol dependency, Suicide and Suicidal tendency.
