The mediating role of attachment styles in the relationship between perceived emotional abuse from parents and self-satisfaction in university students

This research that is a study using quantitative methods to determine the mediating role of attachment styles in the relationship between emotional abuse perceived by parents and self-satisfaction among university students. The sample of the study consists of between the ages of 18 and 28, studying at Muğla Sıtkı Koçman University in the Spring Semester of the 2021-2022 Academic Year; 292 female, 187 male and 6 gender-neutral, totally 485 university students. The data collection process was carried out between 23- 27 May 2022. The scales used in this research are sociodemographic information form prepared by the researcher, Psychological Maltreatment Questionnaire (PMQ), Experiences in Close Relationships-Revised (ECR-II) and Self Satisfaction Scale (3S). The findings of this study were analyzed using the structural equation model. As a result of the research, it was found that perceived emotional abuse from parents significantly predicted self-satisfaction; the mediating roles of anxious attachment style and avoidant attachment style in the relationship between perceived emotional abuse from parents and self-satisfaction were determined.
