Examining the relationship between emotion regulationdifficulty and personality traits in university students

The purpose of the study in research is to examine if there is a meaningful relation between Emotional self-efficacy (ESE) and five factorial model of personality. For this purpose a sociodemographic characteristic information survey (SCIS) has been created also Difficulties in Emotion Regulation Scale-Brief Form (DERS-SF) and Big Five personality trait test -50 Turkish version (OCEAN model) have been used. With the use of simple random sampling method 350 college students has been surveyed from 3 different universities (Sakarya University, Duzce University and Marmara University). The data that has been gathered from the survey has been analyzed with SPSS 22 program. In order to see the distribution of socio-demographic data collected through the ESE, tables showing frequency analysis were created. Normality was evaluated in order to analyze whether the information obtained by the SBPD led to a difference in the BPRS scores and the ESE scores; In Kolmogorov-Smirnov test, it was determined that sub-scales, DERS-SF total and subscales of OCEAN model did not show normal distribution, and the total OCEAN model showed normal distribution and the parametric and non-parametric statistical methods were used (Mann-Whitney U Test, Kruskal-Wallis Test, Independent Samples). T-Test and ANOVA Test) were used. According to the findings, it was seen that gender and age variables were not effective when looking at the OCEAN model and DERS-SF scores, but caused differentiation in the subdimensions. When the mean scores obtained from the scales and sub-dimensions of 359 participants are examined; according to the relationship between personality traits and emotion regulation difficulty, a significant positive relationship was found between OCEAN model and DERS-SF, but when the sub-dimensions were decreased, it was observed that the relationship values did not change and even some sub-dimensions were not found to be significant.
