An analysis of the factors affecting dating violence and its prevelance among university students: The case of Giresun University

In this study, it was aimed to examine the prevalence of dating violence among university students and the change in terms of various demographic characteristics. The research was carried out with the participation of 401 university students. Sociodemographic Information Form and Approach to Conflict Resolution Scale were used to collect data. The data obtained within the scope of the research were analyzed with the SPSS computer-based statistical program. Cronbach Alpha analysis was used to determine the reliability. In the analysis of the data, besides descriptive statistics, validity, normality, correlation, Chi-Square, Kramer V test, Mann-Whitney U test, Kruskal Wallis H tests were used. According to the findings of our research; There was a significant difference between the physical violence practices of the participants according to their age, and it was observed that the participants with a younger age range were more likely to use physical violence in their dating relationships. It was determined that female participants were exposed to violence more than male participants. It was determined that the participants living in the city center were exposed to injury more than the participants living in the district. In addition, the variables of physical violence, sexual violence and injuring behavior differed according to the economic level of the participants. A significant relationship was found between the family structures of the participants and the weak level of psychological violence (0.040). In the scale of approach to conflict resolution of the research, when the correlation coefficients of the perpetrator variables of the scale are examined, there is a strong and positive relationship between injury and physical violence; a statistically significant relationship was found.
