College students in interpersonal dependency, identity orientations and depression

Özet (EN)

In this study, it was aimed at viewing the relationship between interpersonal dependence, identity orientation of university students and depression and at assessing whether these variables differed according to socio-demographic features. The sample of the study was formed by 308 students of 139 females and 169 males who were randomly sampled in public universities in Istanbul during 2016-2017 academic year. Personal information form, Interpersonal Dependance test, Identity Scale and Beck Depression Scale were used in the study. During data analysis, Cronbach Alpha Coefficient for reliability analysis, T test and ANOVA for assessing whether the factors being efficient in self-thoughts, problems and relationship with other individuals of the individuals differed according to demographic variables, Bonferroni and Dunnett T3 for determining the group difference in variables, Multiple Regression analysis for determining predictivity effects of interpersonal dependence and identity sub-scales upon Beck depression score were conducted. As a result, it was found that there was a meaningful relationship between identity orientation, interpersonal dependence and depression. Also, there was a relationship between working mother, father's job, number of siblings, divorced or married parents, parental attitude, number of friends among demographic features and interpersonal dependence, divorced or married parents, number of friends, life satisfaction, future expectations and identity depression; parental attitudes, future expectations and identity orientation.
