Abstract (EN)
This study examines the predictive values of self-compassion and perceived parenting in psychological flexibility in university students. It is widely accepted that the behaviors parents exhibit towards their children significantly impact the psychological flexibility of individuals in adulthood. Freud's thoughts on overcoming early experiences have been further expanded through the concepts of self-compassion and psychological flexibility The research aims to address the predictors of self-compassion and perceived parenting styles on psychological flexibility. The participants of the study consist of 419 students studying at Pamukkale University, with 317 females and 102 males. For data collection, the Personal Information Form, which includes demographic variables (gender, age, class), the Psychological Flexibility Scale, the Self-Compassion Scale, and the Perceived Parenting Styles Scale were used. Multiple linear regression was employed for data analysis. According to the results of the multiple linear regression analysis, the variables that most strongly predicted psychological flexibility were self-compassion, maternal emotional warmth, paternal rejection, gender and age. Paternal rejection predicts psychological flexibility in negative way. The model explains 15% of the total variance. When the study's findings are examined, self-compassion, perceived parenting styles, gender, and age emerge as predictors of psychological flexibility. This study aims to guide psychological counselors and parents in overcoming negative childhood experiences and promoting healthy family relationships. The results obtained from the study were discussed in light of the literature and conclusions were drawn accordingly.
