Investigation of the relationship between gestalt contact forms with personality traits and emotional awareness of university students

Mankind has to interact with its environment to maintain its life. The concept of gestalt contact styles refers to how the individual interacts with the environment. Personality traits that express consistent features that modulate the way individuals communicate and behave also have an important role in human behavior. Emotional awareness, which is another important element of individual behaviors and which has an effect on the behaviors and self-regulation of individuals, is important because they have a direct influence on behavior. Relationships between these three concepts constitute an important resource for understanding human behavior. The main purpose of this research is to examine the relationship between Gestalt contact styles with personality traits and emotional awareness of university students. The examination of gestalt contact forms according to gender, romantic relationship status, psychological assistance and perceived parental attitudes are sub-purposes of the research. The research group of the study, which is organized in accordance with the relational screening model, constitutes 794 university students selected by random sampling method in Artvin, Rize, Trabzon, Ankara, Istanbul, Kocaeli and Karabük in the education period of 2016-2017. There were 469 female students (59.1%) and 325 male students (40.9%) in the study group. The Personal Information Form prepared by the researcher and the Alexithymia Scale (Kemerli and Çelik, 2015) were used in the research and the Gestalt Contact Forms Scale Revised Form (Aktaş ve Daş, 2002), Adjective Based Personality Test (Bacanlı, İlhan ve Arslan, 2007) In the analysis of the data, t-test, one-way variance analysis, Pearson moment product correlation and hierarchical regression analysis technique were used. According to the findings of the study, Gestalt contact styles and gender, romantic relationship status, psychological assistance and perceived parental attitudes were found to be significantly different. It was also found that personality traits and emotional awareness significantly predicted gestalt contact styles. The research findings are parallel to the literature findings. These findings have been interpreted in the literature. Recommendations have been developed in the light of the obtained data.
