Examination of university students imagination and cognitive flexibility levels in terms of some variables

Abstract (EN)

The aim of this study is to examine the relationship between imagery and cognitive flexibility levels of university students in terms of some variables. The population of the study consists of university students continuing their university education in the Republic of Turkey. The sample consists of a total of 285 students, 139 males and 146 females, studying at Dicle University sports sciences and other faculties. In this study designed with quantitative method, survey design was used. The data of the study were collected by personal information form, "Sport Imagery Questionnai re- SIQ" developed by Hall et al. (1998) according to APA DSM-5 criteria and adapted into Turkish by Esen Kızıldağ and M. Şefik Tiryaki, and "Athlete Cognitive Flexibility Scale" developed by Dennis and Wal (2010) and adapted by Sapmaz and Doğan (2013). SPSS 27.0 package programme was used for statistical analysis of the data obtained. In the analysis of the data, arithmetic mean, standard deviation, frequency and percentage distributions were examined. T-test for independent samples was used in the analysis of binary groups. Correlation and regression analyses were performed for relational analyses. When the results of the analyses were examined; the imagery levels of Dicle University students were found to be at a high level and cognitive flexibility levels were found to be at a medium level. A significant difference was found in the imagery levels of university students according to the variables of age, the faculty or department you study, do you regularly do sports and do you have the ability to make the right decision in critical moments (p<0.01). It was determined that there was no significant difference according to the gender variable and whether you have a focus problem under pressure (p<0,05). A significant difference was found in the cognitive flexibility levels of university students according to the variables of the faculty or department you study, do you regularly do sports, do you have focus problems under pressure, do you have the ability to make the right decision in critical moments (p<0,01). No significant difference was found in gender and age variables (p>0,05). According to the results of regression analysis, it was concluded that when the level of imagery increases, it positively affects the tendency towards cognitive flexibility and this effect is significant (p<0,05).
