The relation between university students' psychosocial development level and their adaptation to the university

Abstract (EN)

The ultimate objectives of this research are (1) to determine the Akdeniz University Faculty of Education students' level of psychosocial development and (2) to scrutinize whether their level of psychosocial development predicts adaptation to the university or not. This study was carried out with 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th grade students of daytime and evening education departments of Primary Education, Turkish Language Education, English Language Education, Science and Technology Education, Preschool Education, Mathematics Education and Social Studies Education at the Akdeniz University in 2012. The research was conducted on the 263 female and 159 male students. In total 422 students participated in the survey. The survey's data were collected by using ''Erikson's Psychosocial Development Stages Questionnaire (EPDSQ)'' and ''University of Life Scale (ULS)''. To examine differences by gender in the analysis of data t- Test and to analyze the differences between the classes, ANOVA techniques were used. To find the source of the differences between the classes Tukey test was used. In the Survey, whether the students' psychosocial development periods of adaptation to the university are predicted or not are determined by using regression analyses. In this study, the level of significance was accepted as .05. When the findings obtained from the research are considered according to the class level, it is observed that the 1st class students' compliance level is the highest, the 4th class students' compliance level is the lowest. In addition, in this research, it is found that total points of university students' psychosocial development level predict the compatibility level to the university environment, emotional adjustment, personal harmony and academic compliance.
