Abstract (EN)
This research aims to examine the relationship between sexual myths and parental attitudes of male university students. The research was conducted using the relational screening model, one of the general screening models. The sample of the study consisted of 208 male university students between the ages of 18-26 who accepted voluntary participation. Research findings show that 80.8% of male students are not in a present relationship , 46.2% are between the ages of 18-20, 78.8% live in big cities and 76.9% come from middle-income families. When male students' sources of information about sexuality were examined, it was determined that 46.2% of them received information from communication tools and 34.6% did not receive information from any source. Findings regarding parental attitudes revealed that the average score of democratic attitude was 55.87, protective-demanding attitude was 33.37, and authoritarian attitude was 21.40. The average sexual myth evaluation score was determined as 50.06. Significant differences were found between parental attitudes and sexual myth evaluation scores in terms of relationship status, age, faculty, place of residence, income level and employment status variables. In particular, students who were not in a relationship had higher democratic attitude scores and sexual myth evaluation scores; Authoritarian attitude and sexual myth evaluation scores of students in the 21-23 age group are higher than those in the 18-20 age group; It was determined that the protective-demanding and authoritarian attitude scores of low-income students were higher than those of middle and high-income students. In addition, it was observed that students living in big cities had higher democratic attitude scores, and students living in cities had higher sexual myth evaluation scores. The findings of the research are compatible with other studies in the literature and show how the socio-demographic characteristics and attitudes of university students interact with various factors.
