The socio-cultural factors effecting profession choise of the students going to enter university exam: Aplications for high school students in Malatya

The aim of this thesis is to work out the social - economical and cultural factors effecting profession choice of the last gr ade high school students in Malatya. In today's world, due to the duzzling change in living standarts, the importance of decesions about future has become increasingly important. With respect to this point, teenagers who are going to make a choice about t heir profession should deeply examine themselves and the society in which they live before making a decesion. Wrong decision about it makes the teenager oppose with a situaton that is hard to handle. So, along with the teenager himself, teachers, parents and anybody included in the process should truely understand/grasp the factors effecting the profession choice and give necesarry help for a healthy choice In order to attain this goal, the thesis' hypothesis is made through conversetion with related stud ents, teachers and parents and through observation, investigation of sources and study of previously prepared thesis works. The relation between the profession choice and the factors effecting profession choice, such as family's cultural state, professio n and education level of parents, family's economişcal condition, gender, demographic features ov surrounding, the type of the high school and of the field in which the student is preparing for university is tried to be explained in view of the findings ob tained in the course of investigation. A public survey is conducted with the last grade students from different background in Malatya city. It has become apperent that the results from the survey are consistent with the thesis' hypothesis. The findings o f this study tell us that socio - economical and cultural factors effect the student's profession choice; and these findings also tell us that student himself, teachers and parents are very important for a healthy choice of a profession which has a great function for the individual and society.;Key words: University Entrance Exam , Youth , Socializing , Profession , Profession Choice
