Investigating the relationship between physical activity levels and quality of life of academic staff at universities

Abstract (EN)

In this study, the relationship between sports-based physical activity levels and quality of life of academic staff working at Tokat Gaziosmanpasa University was investigated. In the study, data were collected from 350 academic staff selected by convenience sampling method. The data entered the quantitative data into the SPSS (Statistical Package for Social Sciences) statistical program. The data collected in the research were analyzed with the help of SPSS for Windows 22.0 program. The conformity of the data to the normal distribution was determined by using skewness, kurtosis and standard error values. By preparing descriptive statistics and frequency tables, the averages of the scale sub-dimension scores were calculated and the distribution of the data was examined. Results obtained from the research: In the study, no relationship was found between the physical activity levels of academicians and their quality of life. It was determined that the variables of doing regular physical activity, gender, marital status, being a child, academic title, smoking status, alcohol use status and general health status did not affect the physical activity value, quality of life physical component and mental component levels. It was found that the variables of chronic disease status, regular drug use, availability of an area suitable for doing sports, and the idea of adequate and balanced nutrition did not affect the physical component levels of physical activity value and quality of life; It was concluded that the related variables affect the mental component levels. On the other hand, the thought of quality of life status variable did not affect the mental component levels of physical activity value and quality of life; It was concluded that it affects the physical component levels.
