Design of strategic values at universities & a research in Dumlupinar University

Over the last few years, radical changes have been experienced in the thoughtof strategic management. The critical factors in these changes are intensifiedcompetition, differentiation in workforce qualities, evolution of knowledge-basedsociety and acceleration of globalization due to the changes in socio-cultural structure,economic structure and technology. With these critical factors, the thought of strategicmanagement has ultimately turned into a value-driven strategic management.Today, for both profit-oriented and non-profit organizations, value is not only afactor in shaping the future of organizations but also a crucial administrative tool incompeting in national and international arena.This research aims to form a guide for design of strategic values through whichthe State Universities in Turkey universities can form their differences in order not toresemble each other.Within the scope of the research, a questionnaire was conducted onDumlupınar University shareholders and the data were interpreted with statisticalanalyses using SPSS software. The analyses results showed that the participants foundthe following significant in terms of Dumlupınar University: being scientific focusingon organizational identity, qualified education focusing on education function, appliedresearches focusing on research function, researches on poverty focusing on socialproblems. Also, the participants considered strategic values focusing on educationfunction fundamental for the future of the university. It is hoped that this research willyield especially useful conclusions for the establishment of values that will create thedifferences of newly found state universities.Keywords: Value, Strategic Value, University.
