The effects of the universities on the urban economies: An investigation on the case of Kastamonu University

Universities are one of the most important tools of socio-economic development and industrialization besides scientific development in all societies. Historically, universities, the centers where scientific knowledge is produced, have become an important institution with the transformative effects they have created in the national and local economy since the second half of the 20th century. Regional income distribution is having problems at universities and national development in recent years Turkey has become one of the most important tools for local development. The effects of universities on the economy can be considered as dynamic and static effects and they are also considered as indirect and direct effects. Numerous studies in the foreign and domestic literature show that universities play an important role in the development of the local environment. However, in spite of these contributions by universities, there is a lack of infrastructure especially for students' shelter, social and cultural needs. In addition to the economic impacts of Kastamonu University, the results of this study aiming to measure the satisfaction level of the students studying at the university, as well as the university's corporate expenditures and the university employees and students provide important economic contributions directly and indirectly to the economy of Kastamonu. However, it is also seen that students have problems on a subject, especially housing and costs and the attitude of the shopkeepers.
