Abstract (EN)

In this success-oriented era, success in sports has been one of the ultimate goals of sports psychology for generations. Based on the basis that cognitive processes are a very complex map, our research aimed to examine the effects of skills and abilities that serve the sub-dimensions of achieving sporting success and to interpret the results we obtained with scientific techniques. The aim of this research is to examine the role of mental toughness and mindfulness levels on different variables and sports success. Since there are few studies in this field and there is no study for the sample group we determined, it was deemed a study worth investigating. The research group of the study; It consists of a total of 893 students, 286 of whom are women and 607 of whom are men, studying at the sports science faculties of universities in the provinces of Kütahya, Muğla, Gaziantep, Muş, Kastamonu, Kırıkkale and Trakya in the 2023-2024 academic year. The research data includes the "Demographic Information Form" created by us, the "Mental Toughness in Sports (SMTQ) Scale", whose reliability and validity studies were carried out in our country by H., Pehlivan, and the "Mental Toughness in Sports (SMTQ) Scale", whose reliability and validity studies were carried out in our country by E., Tingaz. 'Conscious Awareness in Sports Scale' was used. In order for the research to be conducted, a letter was received from our university stating that we were conducting this study, and the necessary permission was requested from the relevant institutions and organizations with the decision of the ethics committee, and after the positive feedback given by the universities we determined, the scales were applied to sports science students. The purpose of the research and the purposes for which the results would be used were explained to the participants. SPSS 20.0 package program was used to analyze the data. Variance, standard deviation and t test calculations were used to determine the level of flexibility depending on the variables and that our data were normally distributed. For comparisons of 3 or more groups, one-way analysis of variance, One-Way ANOVA, was applied. According to the research results, students' conscious awareness was found to be significant at p<0.05 level; The variables are gender, school, grade, grade point average, reason for choosing sports sciences, definition of success, having an achievement award, and type of award. Variables that do not show a significant difference at the p>0.05 level in conscious awareness levels; Age, department, being a licensed athlete, training duration and family involvement in sports were determined. According to the results of the research, it was found to be significant at p<0.05 level for students' mental toughness; The variables are age, department, grade point average, reason for choosing sports sciences, being a licensed athlete, training period, definition of success, having an achievement award, and type of award. Variables that do not show a significant difference at the p>0.05 level for mental toughness; It was determined as gender, school, department, class, and family involvement in sports.
