Abstract (EN)

Urinary tract infection is the most common nosocomial infection. Approximately 80 % of nosocomial urinary tract infections often develop after urinary catheter.This study was planned at a university hospital on patients who were catheterized for any reason, catheter was designed to evaluate the effectiveress of urethral catheter care.This study was made at a university hospital between December 2011 -March 2012, on a total of n:207 patients who were hospitalized and catheterized.110 patients were excluded who were not suitable criteria for the study. The sample, in 18 years and older, urinary catheter inserted for the first time,not found infection and catheter attached to at least three days and participate to the study voluntearly total n:97 patients were enrolled.Sixty seven patients (n:67) of the expeimental group recied urinary catheter care with on anticeptic solution and sterile distilled water. Of the 32 patients were enrolled in the control group. Percentage and chi-square test was used for statistical analysis.The average age of the patients in the study is 65±13 years old.49.5 % of patients were female and 50.5 % were male.A total of 18.6 % (n:18) patients were isolated from urinary catheter infections.According to the reproductive status with urinary catheter-related microorganisms on the patient, in order to examine the distribution of chi-square test resulted in a statistically significant difference between experimantal and control groups were not found (x2 : 1.371 Sd:2 p:0,504).E .coli was grown in experimental and control groups as a cause of urinary tract infection.Use of anticeptic solution was showed during catheter care not reduce the risk of catheter ?associated urinary tract infection. Sterile distilled water enough to clean only when contamination is detected.Key words: catheter care, urinary tract infection, urethral catheter.
