The 8th classes students' abilities of using the idioms in their written expressions in the centre of Uşak

In this research 8th class?students? ability of using idioms are examined from the view point of the affects of theirsocioeconomic levels, education levels of their families, literary types read by the students,their connection with fairy tales , their habits of reading daily newspapers and theiropinions about reading books.We determined the samples of this research as 200 students from each of the threesocioeconomic levels as low, middle and high and 600 students from both of them.In order to investigate the 8th class? students? abilities of using idioms and thefactors those influence their abilities, we have prepared a survey which has 31 questions init and applied them by ourselves. Immediately afterwards this survey we required studentsto write a composition and determined the number of idioms used from this compositions.Percentages and frequency values related to data of students? idiom usages are given andexplained. In order to test two variables those could create difference at the idiom usage ofstudents we used ?T-test for independent groups? and ?One Way Anova? to test more thantwo variables. When there is difference between the groups, we tested the source of thedifference between groups with ?Tukey? technique. At the situations those usage ofivparametric tests are impossible, we used Kruskall-Wallis tests instead of ?One Way Anova?and we gave the obtained findings as tables and explained them.At the end, due to the results of the research we made recommendations to theparents, teachers, programmes, program developers and publishers.
