Abstract (EN)
From the beginning of the recorded history, Turks founded great nations in Middle Asia, inner parts of Eastern Europa, Caucasia, Middle East and Anatolia. Having powerful armies as a result of being a military-nation is undoubtedly the most important factor in this. Military service has been a duty for their lives. In the times of ancient Turks, not only men but also women have served in the army and raised their children based on this tradition. Thanks to this tradition, enobling Turks to found strong and long-lasting nations, all aspects of Turkish nation have been blended with these values. There are various researches about the military structure and armies of Turks in history. "Usūl ü Fenn-i Harb" an anonymous one, was written in the first half of the 19th century as Ottoman army accepted the superiority of western nations and tried to establish a new army and a new military education system. This book mainly deals with issues like what should be done in times of war and navy etc. Terminologically speaking, military terms in this book generally stem from Arabic and Persian language. Beside these, one also encounters with words from European language. In this research, the text has been transcribed from old letters to Latin and the original edition has been attached. In addition, a dictionary and military terms have been added. This research offers an insight to the military traditions in Ottoman Empire and generally, Turkish military history. In this sense, this research is expected to contribute not only to the Turkish Language and Literature but also to the history of war in specific and to the military history in general.
