A study on the examination of sustainability activities of UTIKAD member logistics companies

Sustainability can be defined as the steps taken as a solution to environmental damage and environmental, social and economic problems. The 17 sustainable development goals targeted by the United Nations for 2030 are one of the important steps taken on the subject. Carbon dioxide emissions, fuel consumption, noise, air and water pollution can be listed among the negative effects of the logistics sector on the environment. It is thought that it is important for logistics businesses to engage in sustainability-oriented activities in order to reduce these negative effects and ensure sustainability in the sector. The aim of the study is to examine the websites of logistics companies in Turkey, to identify sustainability activities for sustainable development goals and to reveal the current situation on the subject. In this study, the document analysis method was used. Logistics businesses (n=600) that are members of UTIKAD (International Transportation and Logistics Service Producers Association) were chosen as the sample in the study. By researching the information on the websites of the companies that make up the sample, their activities on green logistics, sustainability, sustainable development goals, carbon footprint and zero waste issues were examined. The data obtained was analyzed with the IBM SPSS 27 statistical program and frequency distributions were used in the analysis of the data. As a result of the study; considering the sustainability activities in logistics processes, it is thought that the websites of logistics companies do not include enough activities for sustainable development goals and more importance should be given to sustainability, carbon footprint and zero waste issues.
