Abstract (EN)

Literary adaptations emerged from the interaction of cinema and literature which are important elements in terms of making sense of the societies we live in. In this thesis, women representation in movie adaptations was examined through examples of Turkish cinema in various periods. Firstly, it is aimed to reveal various female stereotypes by examining the representation of women in the society in terms of gender and its reflections in films. In this study, it was examined what kind of changes they made in the representation of women, rather than how much they adhered to the source text during the adaptation. It has been tried to reveal the effects of movies and novels, which are popular entertainment examples, in producing cultural representations and maintaining their continuity. It has been tried to evaluate the effects of the changes seen in the adaptation cinema during the transfer from novel to film, on the gender they tried to create, especially the impact of female representations in movies on gender roles and what methods were used to construct a sexist cultural reality in adaptations.
