An analysis of present situation and application suggest about information center services in distance learning

Advancing technology has brought new applications in the field of education and supported the development of distance learning (DL). The increasing demand for DL, which has become widespread in our country, has also increased the importance of information services offered to distance learners by information centers, which are one of the cornerstones of education. In this thesis, proposals for implementation in order to overcome shortcomings are presented by determining information and document services offered to distance learners by the information centers in Turkey. In the first phase of the thesis, a survey was applied to the information centers of universities offering distance learning programs in Turkey by examining the international information service standards. With the results obtained, the current situation analysis was conducted for the services that information centers offered to distance learners. In the second phase of the study, proposals for implementation were applied by using information technologies in order to overcome the shortcomings determined according to the survey results. It is expected that the results of this study reviewing the current services of information centers can contribute to the services offered to distance learners by the information centers in accordance with the international standards.
