Database design for distance education and sample design

Turkey has been nearly adopted the application of distance education and started to use by taking its agenda. Up to now lots of database has been designed for specific courses or applications but a large-scale study which include establishing a universal education institute has not been released. Universities are the education institutions which use this system but each education institution designs own database model for their distance education system.In this study a full relational global database for Learning Management System (LMS) has been designed in MS SQL Server. The database is compatible with every education institutions and could be adjustable every course also is easy to manage with 153 relational tables. Microsoft SQL Server 2005 software was used for this database design. The database consist of 38 modules, different users in different can be defined and different roles and levels are given to these users. Whole system is managed as entirely by academic and administrative stuff.The database is adopted to different forms such Windows or WEB, also can be developed depending on developers.Keywords: Learning Management System (LMS), SQL Server, Database, Relational Design, Distance Education
