The otolith morphometry of the chub (Squalius cephalus L., 1758) population in the Uzunçayir dam lake

The chub (Squalius cephalus L., 1758) is one of the fish species have economic importance in the Uzunçayır Dam Lake. It has potential of commercial catching. Much work has been done on different populations of this species both in Turkey and abroad. But there is no study on otolith biometry of chub living in Uzunçayır Dam Lake. For this reason, in this study, it is aimed to determine the otolith biometry in the population of Uzunçayır Dam Lake of chub and to make contributions to the future works. In this thesis, a total of 106 S. cephalus individuals, 49 females (46.23%) and 57 males (53.77%), which were captured from Uzunçayır Dam Lake, were investigated. Fish ranged between III-IX age groups. The female / male ratio was found to be 1: 1.16 in all age groups and this rate was not statistically different from 1: 1 ratio. A total of 106 S. cephalus individuals examined during the study had a total length of 16.5 cm to 33 cm, otolith widths of 0.07 mm to 0.23 mm, otolith lengths of 0.1 mm to 0.27 mm, otolith weights of 0.008 g 0. It ranged from 0228 g. The mean total length was 25.49 cm, the mean otolith width was 0.14261 mm, the mean otolith length was 0.1707 mm and the mean otolith weight was 0.0173 g.
