Abstract (EN)

Freight rail activity has grown steadily over the past two decades. Freight transport by rail today constitutes for about a quarter of the global rail transport activity. Policies should be developed to increase the revenues to be obtained from rail systems and to reduce costs in order to ensure that passengers and freight activities front to rail transportation. One of the most important items of railway costs is maintenance costs. Improvements in maintenance costs are achieved by determining efficient and effective maintenance activities. In the study, analyzes were made in many ways using the data containing the maintenance dates, maintenance periods, wagon types and fault definitions between 2019 and 2022. The main point in the data analysis is to highlight the important points for an efficient and effective maintenance policy and plan due to the limited employment in the railway sector. With the statistical analysis of the data, firstly, the workshops that took the most wagons for repair and the reasons for being repaired were determined. The reasons for this repair, that is, the causes of failure, were examined. The wagon details of the causes of these failures were examined. Afterwards, it was analyzed which wagons were sent for repair the most. For each wagon type, the faults were examined and their details were examined. Finally, the top five maintenance locations were analyzed according to wagon type and causes for repairing. In the study, analyzes were made for maintenance activities by going from general to specific, and recommendations were given in the conclusion part.
