Abstract (EN)
The use of Valeriana species, which belong to the Caprifoliaceae family, in the treatment has come from the Ancient Greek and Roman periods to the present day. There are 16 species in our country, 4 of which are endemic. It is known that the species is used in nervous disorders, insomnia, anxiety, heart palpitations, headache, urinary tract and menstrual disorders among the people. Studies have shown that valepotriates detected in the extracts obtained from the roots and rhizomes of the species play a role in the activity. It is also known that its essential oil is used as a sedative. In this study, it is aimed to make inferences on the use of Valeriana species in treatment today by making literature reviews on their ethnobotanical uses, isolation and pharmacological uses, starting from the disease definitions in which Valeriana species are mostly preferred. Key Words: Valeriana, ethnobotany, isolation, activity, Alzheimer disease and anxiety.
