Abstract (EN)

This study is focused on political psychology and Vamık D. Volkan who is known as the genius professor of the mentioned field political psychology and was nominated for Nobel price by a number of countries for his studies. Relationship between political psychology and other disciplines is investigated. This thesis can be said the first in Turkey as it focuses on Vamık Volkan and his studies. For the study, 30 books in Turkish and 34 books in English language of Volkan's have been analyzed and the ones about political psychology were used. Most of the topics and articles in the study were collected from Volkan's researches in Turkey. Text analyse was conducted by the literature review and the data gathered. Atatürk's psycho- biography, the Kurdish problem, terror and identity of terrorist, Abdullah Ocalan's psycho- biography, ethnicity metaphor, chosen traumas, chosen victories are the among the subjects on which Volkan focused highlighted during the study. Vamık Volkan investigated the psychological phases of Ataturk on his study. It was able to show that the great leader also had a private life, traumas he faced, his conflicts, disappointments and other many psychological facts and these were observed in order to search their effects on Ataturk's political life. The basic aims of this study are to have a different point of view in political psychology for the related researchers, to mention the researchers of the field and to provide a sample for future researches.
