In this thesis, Dye Sensitized Solar Cell (DSSC) prepared from vanadium oxide powder was investigated. V2O5 photoanode thin films were obtained by paste with 15 µm thickness and also a few microns thick thin films were prepared spin coating (1200 rev/min.). The crystal structure and phases of thin films were determined by x-ray diffraction (XRD) and particle size of synthesized and commercial powders were measured by particle size analyzer. The size of particles was reduced from 95 to 43 µm by grinding. The optical transmittance were determined by UV-Vis Spectrometry to obtain band gap (Eg) of thin films. Band gap of FTO glass coated with TiO2 thin films was 3,34 eV but the one coated with V2O5 exhibited around 2-3.05 eV. The microstructure and morphology of films were detected by Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM). The components of solar cell were used to obtain complete battery measured for photovoltaic properties such as open circuit (Voc), short circuit (Isc), filling factor (FF) and efficiency (% η). According to results, the addition of vanadium oxide into TiO2 based DSSC has varied with efficiency from %00.4 to 1.25. In the meantime, the efficiency of DSSC with full TiO2 was revealed 6% without V2O5 addition.
