Studying the correlations between existential anxiety and religiosity

While examining the relationship between existential anxiety and religious attitudes, the aim of this study is to consider anxieties as a whole and investigate them in connection with various socio-demographic variables. It is believed that this research will contribute to the literature due to the scarcity of studies that consider anxieties in their entirety. To achieve this goal, the research first conducted a conceptual analysis of the subject to establish its theoretical framework. Subsequently, quantitative research techniques, specifically the survey method, were employed in line with the research objective. The population of the study consisted of individuals in Turkey with various ages, genders, marital statuses, and socio-economic backgrounds. The sample for the research was comprised of 467 individuals aged 15-65+ who participated from different cities. For data collection in the research, the Personal Information Form, the Religious Attitude Scale (Ok-Dini Tutum Ölçeği), and the Existential Anxiety Scale were utilized as instruments. The collected data were analyzed using the SPSS 28 software package. According to the findings obtained from the analyses, a statistically significant negative relationship was identified between participants' religious attitudes and existential anxiety variables. These findings confirm the primary hypothesis of the study, which posits a significant negative relationship between religious attitudes and existential anxiety variables. Additionally, various results were obtained when examining the relationship between sub-dimension scores of existential anxiety, religious attitudes, and demographic variables.
