Proxy wars and its role in international disputes

Is the fact that there is no longer inter-state warfare a sign of passing through a peace period or a change happening in the state of war? Nowadays we are faced with the fact that states do not prefer to take part in the war with its former shape. However, it should not be sought for the meaning of a world peace behind those preferences of states. As a matter of fact, it is clear that the sources needed by the non-state armed groups, which are the perpetrators of the conflicts today, are provided by the states. The doubts about the fact that these organizations, which are in need of receiving their sources from outside, are fed by third states, underline the fact that the phenomenon of proxy wars is being implemented in world politics. In this study, it is examined whether the duration of the conflicts in intrastate conflicts as an intractable conflict to be related to the proxy war carried out by the supporting states. The theoretical framework of this study is based on the transfer of the relationship dimensions of the parties to a series of hypotheses in a triple relationship model. These hypotheses are built around the competition-cooperation-conflict relations arising from the triple relationship mechanism between the supporter, proxy and target units to what extent the duration of the proxy relations affects the conflict periods. It is aimed to explain the components of the proxy wars as a tool that the states apply in foreign policy, and to reveal how it complicates the effects and resolutions of the problems related to international conflicts by focusing on Lebanon case as an example.
