Abstract (EN)
The Vikings, who were both feared and admired in the north in the Middle Ages, found echoes in epics and legends. They emerged from the Scandinavian region between the 8th and 11th centuries, creating storms in Europe, becoming known for their mastery of the seas and their trade, and becoming a society that attracted attention not only with their inclination to war but also with their cultural diversity. All of these and more have taken them beyond being just pirates and made their names heard even today. They have left intriguing traces in the deep pages of history with their lifestyles, cults, advanced ship technologies, trade networks and epic myths. This unique community of the north, known for their warrior spirit and passion for exploration, has magically affected both their own geography and the world and written their name in history. Vikings are not only tough warriors, but also fine craftsmen and traders. They expanded their trade networks by reaching different shores in Europe. Trade routes from Morocco to Istanbul, from the Scandinavian region to England, provide important information about them. In this article, the emergence of the Vikings on the stage of history, their explorations at sea, their trade networks and their relations with the societies they interacted with will be discussed in depth. It will focus on how the Vikings came to the fore not only as a warrior society, but also with their skills in fine craftsmanship and trade, their cultural heritage and their role in the interaction between civilizations. By examining the contacts, they established while expanding their trade networks on the European coasts, the cultural exchanges they made with different societies, and the reflections of these interactions on the historical stage, the value that the Vikings added to the world of the period and how their traces in history were formed will be examined Keywords: Nords, Vikings, Trade, Plunder, Culture, Mythology
