The analysis of the effects of the gear levels increasement on the vehicles

In recent years, many investigations have been made to increase driving comfort and to decrease fuel consumption on automotive industries. The power is produced in an internal combustion engine and it transmits to wheels with a powertrain system. In this case, one of the most important components of the powertrain system is the transmission system, which is impact to vehicle performance and fuel economy. Commercially a lot of types of the transmission systems are used to currently. However, the development woks are continuing rapidly about the transmission system and transmission controller. If the vehicle and transmission system assumed as a functional system, one can decide how to be a transmission system designing with evaluated the number of gear, gear ratio for the each gear and resultant gear ratio. Designer make a decision for design in accordance with the maximum speed of the vehicle, appropriated acceleration of the vehicle and climbing performance of the vehicle. Furthermore, the powertrain yield of the transmissions and especially fuel consumption are another limitation for the structure and design of the transmission system. In this study, a manual transmission used for powertrain in the vehicle is investigated. A simulation is contained internal combustion engine, transmission system, torque convertor, clutch, vehicle dynamics and driving behavior signals established in the Matlab/Simulink®. The effect of different gear ratio on the vehicle dynamics are investigated for a fundamentals powertrain system. After that the effect of four and five speed transmissions system on the vehicle dynamics are researched for the same vehicle. Besides, for both transmissions type the effect of different gear ratio on the vehicle dynamics is considered.
