Evaluation of the usage of web technologies in homework exercises by students and teachers: Example of 7th grade mathematics lesson

In this research, it is aimed to investigate the effects of using web technologies in the 7th grade mathematics lesson homework exercises by students and teachers. The study group of the research consists of 26 students in 7th grade of a secondary school in Akçaabat province of Trabzon in the academic year of 2013-2014. The method of research in which qualitative and quantitative data are collected is an action research. Data were collected through written form, interview, scale and system records from the students during the web-based homework (WBH) process. By the end of coding and categorizations, the themes are determined by using descriptive and content analysis method from qualitative data. Quantitative data obtained from the study were analyzed with the SPSS 22 package software. As a result of this research, according to most of students, WBH is funnier and easier than traditional method of homework. Learning Management System (LMS) is more appropriate than other web technologies in terms of measurement and evaluation. It was seen that the WBH and the homework instructions are clear and understable, in addition to this the post-homework assessment and evaluation was qualified. Furthere more, WBH has provided a basis for assigning homework according to personal interests and preferences. While the WBH process offers opportunities such as instant feedback, social networking environment, contribution to teacher-student and teacher-parent communication, the risks of computer and internet absence, social networking and spending time on web pages have arisen. It has been determined that there is no significant effect on the decrease of students' math anxiety.
