Abstract (EN)
Aim: This study was conducted to evaluate the effects of WhatsApp-based education and counseling provided during the postpartum period on mothers' breastfeeding self-efficacy, body satisfaction, healthy lifestyle behaviors, and weight retention. Material and Method: This study was designed as a randomized controlled experimental study with a pretest–posttest–follow-up design. The population consisted of mothers in the first postpartum week who were registered at four Family Health Centers in the city center of Siirt. The mothers in the intervention group received education and counseling via WhatsApp through educational videos for eight weeks. Data were collected using the Participant Information Form, BSES, BSS and the HLBS. Data collection was conducted face-to-face in the first postpartum week and via Google Forms at the third and sixth months. Results: It was determined that the mean pretest, posttest and follow-up scores of the BSES and BSS were higher in the intervention group compared to the control group (p<0.05). The total HLBS score and its subdimensions health responsibility, physical activity, and nutrition were also significantly higher in the intervention group (p<0.05). No statistically significant difference was found between the groups in terms of weight retention (p>0.05). Conclusion: It was determined that WhatsApp-based education and counseling provided to mothers improved breastfeeding self-efficacy, body satisfaction, and healthy lifestyle behaviors. However, it had no effect on weight retention.
