Abstract (EN)
Dostoyevsky who is one of the most important author of XIX. century Russian literature, manages to write his name with gold letters both his age and world literature by his works. Therefore, it is not easy to understand Dostoyevsky as much as you think. It is not enough to understand him by only reading his works. The major role in creating his work is his life. In this sense, author's life story must be read carefully before reading his works. Dostoyevsky makes his debut in literature by translating Balzac's Yevgeni Grandet. At that time, Dostoyevsky who was only 22 approvingly read the authors who are building blocks of Russian literature like Karamzin, Gogol and Pushkin. Especially, he thinks that Gogol affects him mostly in thinking way. Dostoyevsky legated many important works to Russian and World literature. In almost all of these works scrutinises human's freedom and tries to show ways to reach this freedom. Our thesis consist of two sections. We examined author's life story and exile periods in the first section. We considered his family life, childhood, school years, short-lived work life, circle of friends, exile years and post-exile periods while creating his section. Especially, when looking the post-exile periods, it is possible to find effects of his life even in the first works of his literary life. In the second section of our thesis, we have studied criticism on these works based on the author's main works. The main objective of this review is to understand how other authors saw and understood Dostoyevsky. Besides, to handle Dostoyevsky's art in details in the sense of these critics. In order to examine this issue in a better way, it is not enough to read and examine only translated works to Turkish. With this in mind, it is necesary to examine the Russian and English works.
