Abstract (EN)

The purpose of this study is to reveal the contributions of teaching idioms using body language in Turkish language education as a foreign language to the learning process. Teaching idioms accompanied by body language ensures that cultural transmission becomes more permanent by supporting it with nonverbal expressions, which are one of the basic elements of communication. The study aims to examine the effect of body language in idiom teaching and to make a unique contribution to both Turkish language teaching and cultural transmission. The study group consists of B2-level students studying at the Turkish Language Teaching Application and Research Center at Uşak University. The study adopted a mixed method combining qualitative and quantitative research methods. This approach aims to achieve more comprehensive and reliable results by utilizing the advantages of both methods. A single group pre-test-post-test model was used in the application. The pre-test and post-test results administered to the participants were compared, and the data obtained were evaluated through both quantitative (test results) and qualitative (student opinions) analyses. The findings of the study show that idiom teaching supported by body language contributes positively to the participants' idiom learning process, increases their knowledge level, and facilitates learning. The study serves as a guide for future studies to be conducted at different language levels or in larger classes.
