Evaluation of adaptation problems of foreign national children (Eskişehir city example)

Due to increased immigration, the number of foreign children who are studying in Turkey is increasing every day. Foreign children studying at our schools experience various problems due to the language, culture and other adaptation problems they encounter. Both psychological and social adaptations of foreign children are important for the future of Turkey. The aim of this study is to examine the adaptation problems of foreign children participating in education in the Turkish education system and to present solutions. The data in this study were collected from questionnaires and scales applied to 267 foreign children studying in primary and secondary schools affiliated to MEB in Odunpazarı and Tepebaşı districts, the central district of Eskişehir. In the collection of research data, the participants were given the Personal Information Form (Appendix 1) developed by the researcher, the Yellow, the Foreign Student Adaptation Problems Scale (Appendix 2) developed by the foreign children to determine the adaptation problems of foreign children, a scale form consisting of 5 parts and 45 questions used. The data obtained from the participants were analyzed with IBM SPSS 22 program. Data analysis was carried out on the total scores obtained from the scales. The analysis of foreign nationals in line with the gender of their children's adjustment problems do not vary according to where they live, their grade level, parents' work status, the duration of presence in Turkey. Despite this, it was concluded that the adaptation problems experienced by foreign children differ according to their ages, countries of origin and the number of siblings. So much so that as the age of foreign children increases, it has been determined that the adaptation problems they experience decrease, the adaptation problems they experience increase as the number of siblings increases, and the adaptation problems of foreign children coming from Afghanistan are more.
