Evaluation of tomer education program according to the opinions of foreign nationalities students

The aim of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness of the TOMER (Turkish Teaching Center) education program through the perspectives of foreign students enrolled in TOMER centers located in three different cities of Turkey, namely Sakarya, Bursa, and Erzurum, during the academic year 2023-2024. The sample of the qualitative research methodology study consists of 350 students actively enrolled in or who have completed the TOMER education program. The data collection process involved the implementation of a meticulously scrutinized interview form consisting of 20 items, carefully examined by three experts to ensure validity and reliability. Among the primary data collection techniques are interviews and surveys conducted to obtain insights from different groups, while interviews conducted at TOMER centers were used for triangulation of data. The findings reveal that foreign students generally exhibit a positive attitude towards the TOMER education program. Students express satisfaction with the instructional effectiveness of the program and the quality of educational materials provided. Particularly, the study highlights the challenges students face in developing two fundamental language skills, namely writing and speaking, which are significant barriers in their academic studies. Additionally, the study identifies students' sources of motivation and underscores their appreciation for the cultural elements integrated into the program. Foreign students' evaluations of the TOMER language education program vary considerably. It has been generally stated that the program has a positive impact, particularly in enhancing communication skills and preparing for future career opportunities. However, some students have expressed difficulties in understanding the content of the textbooks and in practical language usage. Nonetheless, the diversity of language courses offered by TOMER and the richness of cultural activities have been appreciated by students.
