Problems of foreign students in adaptation to school

There is an increasing number of refugees or immigration movements every year in the world. In Turkey there is an increasing number of refugees and immigration movements every year due to the war and political instability experienced around and the recovery of the economy. Some international arrangements have been made on refugees and asylum seekers, such as the Geneva Convention. Since it has faced this problem in throughout history, Turkey has been included in international conventions and passed its own national laws. Many of the most important elements in migration are migrant children. There are also regulations regarding the education of these children. However, foreign students face various pressures and difficulties in their education life. When the literature is examined, it is determined that there are generally studies done at high school and university level. In limited studies conducted for foreign primary students, it is seen that datas are obtained from teachers and administrators. In this context, the main purpose of the study is to identify the problems that foreign primary students encounter in adaptation to school from the perspective of these students. In this context, data were collected from a total of 12 foreign students studying in elementary school 3rd and 4th grade education in a province in the Mediterranean region. The study is a qualitative research. When the answers were examined, it was determined that there were difficulties in learning Turkish in three main subjects. These are proverbs, long spelled words and synonyms. It has been determined that foreign students of primary school learn Turkish from courses, teachers, friends, Turkish cartoons and family members.
