Prophet Noah and the Flood in Jewish and Islamic sources

Özet (EN)

In this thesis, The Flood incident, the common component in all cultures, has been scrutinized with the perspective of Judaism and Islamic Suggesting reasons and results in occurence of The Flood, perceptions projected from The Flood to today concerning the segregation of races in human generation, places The Flood's Ark were searched, both political, religious and cultural thoughts which are effective elements during this research. It is tried to make an analysis on the issue scanning studies have been made until today. In the first chapter, Aqua Cult, Aqua of Life, Aqua Worships, The Etymology of word; The Flood, Symbolism of being purified with Aqua, kinds of flood, mythological and historical narrations about The Flood have been told. In the second chapter, the issue of Noah's Flood in the Holy Jewish texts has been presented with the headlines; Noah's Character, Etymology of The Flood, Its Reasons, Stages of its occurrence and Later The Continuation of Human Generation. In the third chapter, the Issue of Noah and The Flood in Islamic Literature has been scrutinized in the way that is told in historical resources, hadiths and the Quran. The issue has been expressed with the headlines, human generation after The Flood, results from The Flood's Tale, A Brief Comparison between Judaism and Islam on The Flood's perceptions. In the fourth chapter, It has been studied on the modern arguements made on the issue of the Prophet Noah and the Flood. The Flood's Being Literal or Figurative, the flood incident As a cosmic disaster, its Localness or universality, comments about the place The Flood's Ark landed on have been told. Historical, archeological and scientific researchs about the issue and also studies made on finding the ruins of the Ark. As a conclusion, it has been signified that in all cultures, mythologies and religions, the common point of narrations about The Flood is a massive flood, building of a ship by a superior human being chosen by the Gods, being entered of animals and some people into this ship, then being saved from The Flood so the destruction of the others. It is notified that differences between narrations on The Flood have been formed as result of timely cultural discriminations.
