Abstract (EN)

This study was conducted to adapt the "Yale Physical Activity Scale (YPAS)" questionnaire that is developed for the elderly people into Turkish and to determine the validity and reliability of the Turkish version. The population of this study consisted of people aged 65 and over living in the city center of Izmir and fulfilling the inclusion criteria. After obtaining permission to determine its validity and reliability in Turkish, the YPAS questtionnaire was translated into Turkish using the "back forward translation method" and the "Davis technique" was used for the scope validity of the questionnaire. The demographic information of the participants was recorded in the data registration form. International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ), Physical Activity Scale for the Elderly (PASE) and Turkish version of the Yale Physical Activity Scale (YPAS-TR) were used for to determine the physical activity level of the elderly individuals. For reliability, item-total score analysis was performed and the questionnaire was reapplied to 45 randomly selected people 14 days later with the "test-retest" method and the intraclass correlation coefficient was calculated. In construct validity of the questionnaire, the relationship between the other questionnaires was examined. The data were analyzed with SPSS 26.0 software program. The mean age of the participants was 73.22 ± 6.13 (36 females and 51 males). According to the IPAQ total (X: 3449.67±2588,34 MET-minutes) and PASE total (X: 94.42±48,40) results, it was determined that physical activity levels of the elderly people were moderate to intense. A significant difference was found between male and female participants in the terms of YPAS-TR total summary score and walking index score (p<0.05). The construct validity of the questionnaire was weak, with only the "standing index score" of the IPAQ total score the questionnaires were found to have moderate, strong and very strong correlations with all other parameters. In item total reliability, "standing index score" was weak; moderate to strong correlations were detected with all other parameters. A good level of agreement was observed in test-retest reliability, no significant difference was found (p>0.05). The intraclass correlation coefficients of the questionnaire items were calculated between (ICC = 0.665 - 0.990). The results show that the YPAS-TR questionnaire is a valid and reliable questionnaire to evaluate the physical activity level of the elderly individuals.
