The role of loneliness, life satisfaction and attitude towards dating violence in predicting happiness

The aim of the research is to investigate the predictive role of loneliness, life satisfaction and attitude level variables towards dating violence in the happiness levels of university students. In addition, the research also examined whether the loneliness, life satisfaction, attitude towards dating violence and happiness levels of university students differed according to gender and romantic relationship status. The research was conducted based on the correlational study model, which is one of the descriptive screening methods. The study group of the research consists of a total of 384 participants (263 women and 121 men) who are studying in different faculties and departments of two universities in the Southeastern Anatolia Region and the Central Black Sea Region and were selected by convenient sampling method. In order to collect data in the study: Personal Information Form, Ucla Loneliness Scale, Oxford Happiness Scale Short Form, Adult Life Satisfaction Scale, Dating Violence Attitude Scale were used. The data obtained from the participants were analyzed using IBM SPSS 26 and SPSS AMOS 26. The role of loneliness, life satisfaction and attitude towards dating violence in predicting happiness levels was examined with the structural equation model. Independent groups t-test was conducted to find out whether there is a significant difference in terms of variables according to gender and romantic relationship status. According to the results obtained from the research, the life satisfaction level of university students is a positive predictor of their happiness levels. However the level of loneliness and unsupportive attitudes towards dating violence of university students are not a predictor of happiness. It the research, it was determined that university students' general life satisfaction and social environment satisfaction,which are sub-dimension of loneliness,happiness and life satisfaction,did not differ according to gender.However in the research,it was concluded that the level of job satisfaction,which is sub-dimension of life satisfaction,differs according to gender. Accordingly,the job satisfaction level of female students is higher than male students.In addition,it was concluded in the research that the level of non-supportive attitude towards dating violence of women compared to men is higher than both in the total attitude level and in the scores obtained from its sub-dimensions(sexual,economic, physical, emotional and general violence). In addition,it was concluded that university students' attitude towards dating violence and their social environment satisfaction and job satisfaction, which are sub-dimensions of life satisfaction,did not differ according to their romantic relationship status.However, in the research it was concluded that those who are in a romantic relationship have a higher level of happiness and general life satisfaction than those who are not in a romantic relationship.In addition, it was concluded that university students who are not in a romantic relationship have a higher level of loneliness than students who are in a romantic relationship.
