Investigation of alternatives in energy efficiency of Yalova university faculty of engineering building

In today's world, energy is not only a resource but also a fundamental carrier for economic development, environmental sustainability, and societal well-being. Energy plays a vital role in every sector, from industrial production to household use. However, in a time when energy resources are limited and environmental impacts are increasing, the wise use of energy and the enhancement of energy efficiency have become significant responsibilities. This thesis aims to examine energy efficiency measures that can be implemented in the Yalova University Faculty of Engineering building. The investigations were carried out under the following headings: Firstly, the focus was on identifying the areas in the building where the highest heat loss occurs. Secondly, an analysis was conducted on the use of thermostatic valves as a means to provide savings instead of radiator valves. Thirdly, attention was given to determining the optimal thickness of various insulation materials to enhance the energy efficiency of the roof. In this context, efforts were made to determine the optimum insulation thickness for stone wool, carbon EPS, and XPS materials. Additionally, an evaluation was conducted regarding the implementation of Low-E glass applications to minimize heat loss in windows. As a result of the evaluations, the highest energy efficiency with 40% was obtained when the roof was insulated with carbon EPS. In addition, applying insulation to the roof and installing thermostatic valves to the radiators in the building made the building 55% more efficient.Finally, an economic analysis is calculated for the case of using heat pumps for heating instead of natural gas consumption.
