The relationship between artificial intelligence and ethics

This study examines whether artificial intelligence can possess human-like intellectual and ethical qualities and whether it can be an ethical subject. The research question is whether increasingly autonomous artificial intelligence systems possess the capacity to make ethical decisions. In this context, the philosophical foundations and historical development of artificial intelligence are examined, followed by an assessment of the ethical status of these systems within the context of various ethical theories such as deontology, teleology, and virtue ethics. To form the theoretical basis of the study, the issues of autonomy and moral decision-making are examined along with the conditions for ethical subjecthood, and ethical issues are addressed through the lens of algorithmic neutrality and technological determinism. The potential of artificial intelligence to become an ethical subject is discussed through concepts such as algorithmic neutrality, consciousness, intention, responsibility, and security. Furthermore, applications of artificial intelligence in areas such as healthcare, law, labor, and education are examined, and the societal impacts of these applications and the need for ethical regulation are discussed.
