Rhetoric practices in the Surah of Yasin (example of İbn Ashur and Sabuni)

The Holy Quran has been tried to be better understood by Muslims since the day it was sent down. Undoubtedly, the basic condition for better understanding the Quran is to master the Arabic language and rhetoric, as well as the science of tafsir. Although the science of rhetoric was a little late compared to other Islamic sciences in terms of its formation and systematization, it became systematic in a short time and took its deserved place among the Islamic sciences due to the fact that it is very necessary for a better understanding of the Holy Quran. It is a fact that the Holy Quran rhetorically challenged the Arab society of that day, which was at the peak in the field of literature, considering the environment in which it was sent down. Therefore, in the context of the importance of clearly understanding the Qur'an, many commentators such as Zamakhshari (d. 538/1144) emphasized that the way to fully and accurately interpret the Qur'an is through knowing the science of rhetoric well. . For this reason, rhetorical practices have been widely included in many classical and modern tafsir, and rhetorical wit has been mentioned while interpreting the verses. In this study, the commentary titled et-Tahrîr ve't-tenvîr by the Tunisian scientist and intellectual, commentator İbn 'Âşûr (1879-1973) and the contemporary commentator Sâbûnî (1930-2021), a versatile Syrian scholar, titled Safvetü'. His work named t-Tafâsîr has been discussed comparatively in terms of rhetorical practices, specifically the Surah Yasin. As a result of the research, the styles and methods of the two mentioned commentaries in terms of performing literary arts were examined. In the context of these two tafsir, the surah was examined in terms of the sciences of me'ani, beyân and bedî', which are the main headings of the science of rhetoric; The rhetorical jokes and differences in meaning that emerged were identified and explained.
