Examination of the relationship between fragility, difficulty in adapting to old age, and successful aging in elderly individuals

In this study; it was aimed to examine the relationship between fragility, difficulty in adapting to old age and successful aging in elderly individuals. 220 elderly individuals aged 65 and over who applied to Sincan Dr Nafiz Körez Devlet hospital were included in the study. "Introductory Information Form", "Edmonton Fraility Scale", "Assessment Scale of Adaptation Difficulty for the Elderly" and "Successful Aging Scale" were applied to the individuals through face-to-face interviews. In the study, 55,9% of the elderly individuals stated that they live with their spouses and 80,9% of them perceive themselves as old. 89,5% of the elderly reported that they had at least one chronic disease and 90,9% of them reported that they have one drug that they use regularly. It was determined that 21,4% of the elderly individuals had a history of falling. In the study, 80,5% of the participants reported that they had vision problems. Edmonton Frailty Scale mean score of the elderly individuals participating in the study was 7,02±3,13; The mean score of the Assessment Scale of Adaptation Difficulty for the Elderly was 0,66±0,41; Successful Aging Scale mean score was 52,63±10,41. It was determined that there was a positive relationship between Edmonton Frailty Scale and Assessment Scale of Adaptation Difficulty for the Elderly mean score, and a negative, moderately significant relationship between Edmonton Frailty Scale and Successful Aging Scale total mean score. In addition, it was determined that there was a negative, highly significant relationship between the mean scores of Assessment Scale of Adaptation Difficulty for the Elderly and Successful Aging Scale. The level of adaptation to old age decreases, the level of realizing the phenomenon of successful aging decreases, and as fragility increases, successful aging and adaptation to old age decrease. As a result of the study, it was determined that frailty in elderly individuals is associated with adaptation to old age and successful aging.
