The research for the perception and the attitudes of the society towards placing the elders into the nursery houses: The Eskişehir example

Senility, is a period which is handled in various (psychological, physical, social) ways. The perception of seniority and taking it as a positive or negative period, is connected with the knowledge that we get from the society, and it shapes the behaviours and attitudes of the people who live in the society. In addition to what seniority connotes to the people in the society, the health problems that emerges with aging and every point that is connected to the elderly care is studied in the research. Especially the society?s espousing to take nursery as a duty of women, the negative perception of society towards nursery houses and the factors that leads people to see the nursery houses in a negative way, like media and popular culture are examined. The research has been carried out by applying questionnaire to 600 people (ages differ from 27-70) picked from Vişnelik, Batıkent and Emek districts of Eskişehir, quintet Likert Scale is applied and it is analyzed with SPSS-11.0 (Statistical Package for The Social Sciences) As the result of the research, the negative view of society towards nursery houses is appeared and it is seen that there is a social pressure on the people who places their elders to these institutions. In the summary, it is emphasized that the senility period is not really a passive stage, some advices are given to introduce the society with the nursery institutions, and also some solutions proposed about related points.
