The investigation of caregiver burden, depression level and burnout status in caregivers of the elderly people confined to bed

The increase in the elderly population in Turkey day by day has increased the importance of caregiving. Home health and care service units have been established by state hospitals and municipalities in order to meet the healthy and social needs of the elderly group. The main problem of this study is to examine the burden of caregiving, depression level and burnout status in caregivers in the elderly people confined to bed. Also in the research it has been aimed to examine whether the burden of caregiving differs according to depression level, burnout status and same sociodemograhpic factors. In the research, Caregiver Burden Scale, Beck Depression Inventory, Maslach Burnout Scale have been used as data collection tool. In addition, data on the sociodemographic characteristics of caregivers have been obtained by using the demographic information form prepared by the researcher. The analysis of the data has been carried out using the SPSS programme. İn order to examine the predictive effects of the independent variables on the dependent variables, the regression analysis has been performed and to examine the differences between the groups, a one way ANOVA has been done. In the analysis findings, there is a positive and significant relationship between caregiving burden, depression, emotional exhaustion and depersonalization in addition personal failure is positively associated with caregiving burden and negatively with depression. ıt has been seen that there are significant differences between caregiver's burden of care, depression levels, emotional exhaustion, depersonalization and personal failure sub-dimension depending on age groups and education levels. The obtained result have shown that women's depression levels are significantly higher than men's. It has shown that the burden of caregiving employees, their depression, emotional exhaustion and depersonalization levels are higher. It has been seen that there are significant differences between caregiver's burden of care depression levels, emotional exhaustion, depersonalization and failure sun-dimensions depending on the duration of caregiving. Finally it has been seen that there are significant differences between the depression levels of the caregivers and emotional exhaustion sub-dimensions depending on the total length of caregiving.
