Abstract (EN)
SUMMARYThe Compliance and Tolerance Level of Inpatients to Colonic PreparationsBefore ColonoscopyKübra YETEMENThis study is done to investigate the tolerance level of inpatients to preparationregimens and the role of compliance to the procedures of inpatients. A questionnairewas used to gather data from patients. It includes questions about demographicinformation, the compliance level of patients to their diet and preparation regimens.Another part of questionnaire was asked to the doctor who performs the colonoscopyto evaluate the adequacy of the bowel preparation of patients. The gathered data formthe questionnaires were evaluated with different statistical application tests. We found that the bowel preparation of inpatients is less adequate than outpatients. The adequate bowel preparation ratios amongst the inpatients and outpatients are73.9% and 100%, respectively which is statistically significant (p<0.01). There wereno differences for the compliance level and tolerability of regimens between twogroups. The only significant difference between two groups is the compliance ofpatient groups to a clear diet during the preparation (p<0.01).Finally, the bowel preparation of inpatients is less adequate than outpatients. Thereason for poor colonic preparation of inpatients is their lack of compliance to a cleardiet. Before the colonoscopy, the importance of a clear diet should be explained toinpatients to ensure their compliance to their application. Also, a liquid diet listsshould be prepared for inpatients. Intake of oral solutions by inpatients should becontrolled and monitored by nurses. Keywords: Bowel preparation, patient compliance, solution tolerance, colonoscopy.
