Abstract (EN)

Feminist theory is an approach that examines how gender, particularly women's experiences, are shaped by social, cultural and political contexts. It challenges traditional patriarchal structures and advocates the elimination of gender-based inequalities. Feminist film theory emerged in the 1970s. Feminist film theory is an approach that opposes male-dominated narratives in cinema and the use of women as objects of spectacle in cinema. Feminist film theory is used to examine how film reinforces or challenges male-dominated gender roles. The aim of this study is to analyse the representation of women in films directed by Yavuz Turgul within the framework of feminist theory. The study is a mixed design research in which discourse analysis and content analysis are used together. This analysis will provide a deeper understanding of the phenomenon of women in Turkish cinema. Yavuz Turgul's films cover a period starting from the 1980s until 2017. This period covers periods of significant changes in Turkish society and cinema. The fact that all of these films are evaluated together provides an important source in terms of understanding both the transformations in the gender perception of Turkish society and their reflections in cinema. In this respect, it is thought that the study will make an important contribution to both cinema studies and gender studies. When Turgul's filmography is interpreted as a whole, stories shaped around men, passive women in the role of victims and silent women or female characters who are forced to remain silent draw attention. When all the data obtained are analysed, it is seen that Yavuz Turgul mostly writes male stories that perpetuate patriarchal domination, the only exception to this is Fahriye Abla.
